PHP/MYSQL Development Case Study

CASE STUDY – MUMSCIRCLE.COM
THE CLIENT
The client is Amy Read of www.mumscircle.com. Social networking website for mums

THE REQUIREMENT
Amy wanted to create a social networking website for mums, to co-ordinate tasks related to babysitting and connect with a close group of friends. Client wanted us to create an exclusive circle of mothers and device a point based system via which a mum can exchange her services as a babysitter to earn hours (of babysitting) herself. The website needed a complete user management system, via which a mum could create her own circle of friends from ground up and then elect the best solution available, when the need arises.

Website needed a system through which both private and public messaging could be employed. Mums could send messages to a group, or an elected individual in a properly formatted email which could be retrieved from either the receivers current email address, or a special message box encoded in the website itself.

Also, the site called for advanced search facility, through which mothers could search and add potential mums to her own circle. A pre formatted invite could then be sent across to initiate further correspondence.

The website needed an appealing web 2.0 look, with nice fonts and neat column design to appease the target user group.

BENCHMARK SOLUTION
An all out social website, www.mumscircle.com, has gone live since November 2008. The site has been built using php as the server scripting language and mysql database at the backend. The Home page has a nice 2 tone template design which is carried forward in to internal pages as well. Complete web 2.0 look, the site data is easily cache-able by all major search engine bots making it very SEO friendly. In terms of functionality, a new User Management Unit has been built from ground up which logs in the user in to her own customized Home page where the mum can access her circle of friends.

Message boards coded in PHP has been employed, via which mums could post her bulletins meant for all. Advanced search has been created, which enables the users to define search criterions according to their likes. On the completion of a successful search, the mum could send a pre-formatted invite to the user. Mums can also send across invites and emails to people who have not signed up, directly through the website itself.

Users are notified of any impending invites/messages, which they can look up immediately via their Private message box programmed within the website.
Special promotion/offer sections has also been identified and addressed.

BENEFITS AND ROI
The client is getting plenty of site visits from those who wish to share babysitting by someone they trust, and will also soon start making profit from relevant ads on website from different sources. Soon after the launch of website lots of babysitter seekers became member of the site and created their own circle to gain the benefits out of it. All in all, a good investment, and plenty of future potential.
